The word “awesome” means “to characterize by an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration, or fear; causing or inducing awe.” IMO, God is the only one who can properly produce that characteristic within us. And there are many attributes of God that produce awe within us. There are also many aspects of His creation that produce awe as we are confronted with His majesty, power, and glory! Such can apply to the Grand Teton National Park.

When we first entered the Tetons, after leaving Yellowstone, we caught our first glimpse of that mountain range and it was an upfront and personal view. (I know that there are others who would say that the Teton range pales when viewing Banff or Glacier or some other mountain range, and I might agree after I see those. But, it would simply make me even more conscious of God’s awesome power and majesty). The camera is unable to capture fully the beauty and grandeur of this mountain range, but we try nevertheless. Just take a look at a few of our pictures.

We camped at Colter Bay campground and were able to attend an evening program where the Ranger talked about the stars and said that, in a sense, the sky is a part of the whole experience of the Grand Teton National Park. It was a free program that not only gave us something to do in the evening but we learned some things in the presentation as well. Prior to his presentation he made the remark that if this were our first visit to the park that we would surely return again. To that statement we both would agree that we would very much enjoy visiting the park again in the future.

There is nothing, that I can think of, that is of “Man” that we went to see while in the park (other than the Ranger program in the campground). Our entire visit consisted of beholding and enjoying the glorious creation of our God. We found ourselves singing songs such as, “How Great Thou Art,” “Majesty”, and “To God be the Glory” while we hiked the trails. And it was a neat serendipity when a red fox crossed our path about 20 feet in front of us and then stopped to peer out at us from the safety of the bushes and trees lining the trail.

In this day of ours we are often captivated by technology and the accomplishments of Man, but nothing can compare with God’s creative hand!
